Tasmanian artist Fiona Verdouw enjoys connecting people with places they've experienced in nature.
Rather than documenting grand landmarks and destinations, Fiona’s oil paintings focus more on what is discovered along the way.
Depicting views through trees, scatterings of leaves and misty mountain-tops seen from hiking tracks around Tasmania, Fiona combines her love of wilderness and nature to create oil paintings of her experiences in landscapes which an audience can also feel a connection with.
Whether working from within her studio, or outdoors (en plein air), Fiona's oil paintings draw upon Tasmania’s unique colour palette and the distinctive shapes found within landscapes to simplify scenery and highlight her favoured subject matter: Trees.
Fiona Verdouw has shown work in exhibitions across Australia; being selected as a finalist in the Regional Landscape Art Prize, as well as the Henry Jones Art Prize and The Little Things Art Prize on multiple occasions. Her oil paintings have been featured in Australian Home Beautiful magazine, and have also been used on the set of the Australian TV mini series, Deadloch.
Fiona's paintings have been purchased and commissioned by collectors across Australia and overseas. An exhibiting artist with the Art Society of Tasmania, she also displays work in select gallery stores around the state.
Fiona is also often called upon to teach oil painting workshops for various art groups and events.
Raised in Adelaide, South Australia, Fiona Verdouw studied Commercial Art &Design; working as a graphic designer in advertising, publishing and printing firms within Australia and overseas.
She moved to Hobart in 1998 to snag her Tasmanian husband.
It wasn’t until 2016 that Fiona chose to focus more of her efforts on painting
and building an art practice. She now pursues art full time.
